cold sores

having a cold sore is part of my identity. the above pictures are just three examples of when i've rocked a cold sore, but let me tell you, there are hundreds of real life examples. i was looking through pictures to pull out the ones that showcase my herpes. i swear it was every other picture of me during my teenage years.

one time i had a cold sore in the middle of my upper lip, like the one in the middle picture. but this sucker got so huge, and so swollen, that by day two it looked like i had a legitimate beak. my cold sores usually come on when i'm very stressed. or traveling. or busy, or happy, or laughing, or watching a movie, or, jk. but really, i get them when i'm stressed.

by now i'm an expert on this matter. let's go through the issues one by one. first. either you get cold sores or you don't. so if you know someone who has a cold sore but you need to use their chapstick or kiss them but you can't because you don't want to get a cold sore, you can stop being such an elitist. the thing is, unless it's common for you to get cold sores, you aren't going to catch one by using some one's chapstick. true story. but  if i used a herpes wearer's chapstick, then yes, i could get one. because hello! i'm susceptible.

moving on.

i've had 25 years to master the art of getting rid of these babies asap. first sign of one coming on is the tingling. a little spot on your lip starts tingling and itches. you can't even see it yet, but you know it's there. well i've used all the products. ones people have sworn by. but i only swear by one product. carmex. yep. it only works though if you put it on the second you feel the tingling and keep it on-always. right when your lips are even thinking about being dry, re-apply the carmex on the cold sore. it's like every couple of hours. you'll still get the cold sore, but it will be way smaller and last way less time than before. pretty soon it will be nothing but a scab. and scabs are soooo manageable compared to puss.

trust me on that.

do you get cold sores? aren't people so rude about it? they stare at your lip in horror and act like if you even look their way they will surely die because they'll catch a cold sore and that's DISGUSTING. ppsssh. whatevs i think it's hot.

not only do I feel strangers looking at my cold sore like I'm gonna give it to them, I feel like people are like "sick, how are you so disgusting you let yourself get infected with that gross monstrosity and obviously it's your fault and I would never do anything to let myself get that grossness on my lip". anyways, I too have gotten them since I was a wee child. and I totally have one in all our engagement pictures.

i am one of the lucky that do not get cold sores (although I had eczema so maybe that makes up for it). but ty gets them and once we went to his brothers house when he was getting married. he was so mean to ty bc he was scared of his cold sore. he wouldn't let him touch ANYTHING in his house and wouldnt even let ty give his new sis in law a huge after the wedding. so mean.

also, sorry i have a seriously long comment on every one of your posts. you have such a casual conversational tone on your blog that I guess I feel I have to talk back to you.

I get them, too. So does Troy. He loves Carmex also. I can't stand the stuff. I swear by Abreva. But you're right - put stuff on it at the first tingle and you've got everything under control.
Stupid stress does me in every time, too.

You know you're grateful for my dramatic notes for their entertainment factor! I just got rid of a bunch of notes/notebooks, and it was hilarious to look through them.

Thanks about my hair! It's kind of fun... and weird.

Also, we need to gather ourselves with everyone!
