i mentioned that john and i recently drove through couer d' alene, id. it's a gorgeous city up there. a lot of lake side houses. it has a bit of a reputation though for having some white supremacy groups and crazy satan compounds and stuff like that. i don't know if that has been exaggerated or not, but still.
well we stopped at taco bell there in couer d' alene. while we were eating, we noticed a guy staring us down. he was sitting a couple of tables away and had another guy with him. i'm tempted to call them boys because they were in their early 20's. but they both looked like they'd killed a man. freaky.
as john and i were walking out, we noticed they got up to. i said dude let's hurry and get in the car they are coming out. i had just sat down in the car and right as john was shutting his door, one of them said, "hey! why were you talking s#!* about us!?" john shut his car door and rolled down the window a couple inches. i said no no no let's just drive away. john said, " i don't know what you're talking about, we weren't talking about you man". by this time he was standing right next to our window. "you were pointing at us through the window when you were walking into taco bell," he said. he was mad. john said whatever, rolled up the window, and started the car. the guy yelled to his friend to get in their car. they were going to follow us! john and i decided they can't follow us if we don't go anywhere so john turned the car off and after about a minute of sitting in the car and them in their car waiting for us to pull out, they both got out of the car. they both walking fast up to our car cussing at us. they were yelling at john to get out of the car and stop being a wuss. not said so kindly though. so john turned on the car again and started to pull out. they ran to their car again. john pulled back into the parking spot and turned the car off again! so they pulled back into the spot right next to us this time. how long was this going to last? they sat there talking. finally john rolled down his window a little bit and the kid in the passenger seat rolled his down. john told them we are calling the cops right now. the kid said, "you bleeps aren't worthy our bleeping bleepity time". john said, "yeah that's obvious since you just spent 10 minutes on us". the kid said, "yeah right more like 5 minutes." and they drove away.
john and i looked at each other and started busting up.

so...i'm totally torn here. i think it's false, but I'm hoping it's true, because it's just so funny! the staying in the car, and the guys getting in and out is hilarious.

I lived up in Moscow for 2 1/2 years and went into Coeur d'Alene plenty of times. Although we didn't have any of those kinds of run ins, we got mixed up in some anti-war protests, and a man who was walking down main street with a sign that said "Support Our Troops" got poisoned, and there were far too many topless women for our liking, and our apartment got vandalized because we had a Republican candidate sign in our window...crazy area.
